The Project

The design of the new properties was influenced by the rural character of the area. We used a combination of cedar cladding, brick, and render for the facades, paired with natural slate roofing. These materials not only blended harmoniously with the surrounding woodland but also provided a contemporary yet timeless appearance.

Inside the homes, we prioritized energy efficiency. Each dwelling was fitted with the latest energy-efficient boilers, underfloor heating, and mains pressure hot water systems. High levels of insulation were incorporated into the structure to reduce running costs and improve environmental sustainability. Internally, the finishes were completed to a high standard, with modern fixtures and fittings enhancing the homes’ appeal.

The project also required extensive new infrastructure, including roads, drainage, and services. We installed sympathetic fencing and landscaping to ensure that the development complemented its natural setting.

The final dwelling, still under construction, is a subterranean property. Designed with only one visible elevation—a striking glass wall—it presents an exciting architectural challenge. Innovative construction techniques were used to create retaining walls and ensure effective waterproofing and tanking.

Conclusion

This project successfully revitalized a derelict site with modern, energy-efficient dwellings, blending historical preservation with cutting-edge construction. The mixture of retained buildings and new homes has created a development that integrates seamlessly into its rural surroundings while providing luxurious, contemporary living spaces.
